Most offices don't get dirty all at once. It creeps up: a sticky lunchroom bench, a dusty vent, a bathroom that's fine until a visitor uses it. The fix is a simple schedule that splits the work by how often it actually needs doing.
Here's the checklist we work from for offices and warehouses around Malaga and Wangara. Use it to keep on top of things yourself, or to check what your current cleaner covers.
Daily (or every visit)
- Empty bins and replace liners, including recycling
- Wipe and sanitise kitchen and lunchroom benches, sinks and tables
- Clean and sanitise toilets, basins, tapware and mirrors
- Restock toilet paper, hand towels and soap
- Wipe high-touch points: door handles, light switches, lift buttons and shared phones
- Spot clean glass entry doors and reception counters
- Vacuum or sweep high-traffic floors and entries
Weekly
- Vacuum all carpets, including under desks where reachable
- Mop hard floors in kitchens, bathrooms and corridors
- Dust desks, shelves, window sills and partitions
- Wipe the outside of the fridge, microwave and dishwasher
- Clean the inside of the microwave
- Wipe chairs, especially armrests
- Clear out the lunchroom fridge (agree a day with staff so nothing important gets binned)
Monthly
- Dust air vents, exhaust fans and light fittings
- Wipe skirting boards, door frames and doors
- Clean internal glass, partitions and the inside of windows
- Descale kettles and taps, and clean the dishwasher filter
- Spot clean marks on walls
- Check bathroom grout and silicone for mould
Every few months
- Deep clean carpets in high-traffic areas
- Clean window tracks and blinds
- Pressure clean entries, paths and car parks
- Clear out storage rooms and the stack of boxes that always seems to grow
Outside areas pick up oil, tyre marks and mould over winter. A pressure clean of the entry and car park makes a big difference to first impressions.
Warehouse and workshop extras
If your office sits in front of a warehouse, the dust doesn't stay out the back. A few extras help:
- Sweep or scrub warehouse floors on a set schedule, not just when it looks bad
- Keep walkways and exits clear and clean
- Clean the staff amenities more often than the office ones, since they get heavier use
- Put good mats at every door between the warehouse and the office
We've written more about this in warehouse cleaning and safety.
Make it someone's job
A checklist only works if someone owns it. Pin it up in the lunchroom, tick off the daily items, and set a calendar reminder for the weekly and monthly ones. If it keeps sliding, that's usually the sign it's time to hand it over.
